"Montre des années folles"
The Vendôme was one of Cartier's first quartz watch launched in the 70s and quickly became a commercial success for the maison. It was launched in two versions: the must de Cartier in gold plating "vermeil" and the version Louis Cartier in 18k gold.
This example offered is of the former. A 30mm silver case with gold-plating ("vermeil") housing a quartz movement with distinct horizontal lugs to which the bracelet is attached. It is said that Louis Cartier, in 1934, patented this new "attache" form drawing inspiration from the shape of the only two streets, Rue de la Paix and Rue de Castiglione, which lead to Place Vendôme from above and below the square.
Like many examples of "Must" watches, the dial is a departure from the classic design language of Cartier. This example is an Art Deco dial with roman numerals at 12 and 6 o'clock.
